Before Monday Nitro launched in September 1995, WCW Saturday Night on TBS was the flagship show of World Championship Wrestling. It was the program where title changes happened, feuds were built, and the biggest matches were made. Dusty Rhodes, who served as a commentator on the show, famously called it “The Mothership.” The show aired at 6:05pm Eastern. When it relaunched under the WCW Saturday Night name in April 1992, it debuted with a futuristic sci-fi set inside CNN Center in Atlanta, complete with sliding doors and billowing smoke for entrances, with Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura at the commentary desk. Once Nitro went on the air, Saturday Night was gradually pushed down to a secondary role and eventually a C-show running enhancement talent matches. But in the early and mid-1990s it was the main event.
