There's a new 1% federal tax on sending money abroad. Luckily, if you send with Remitly, it doesn't apply to you. As of January 1, 2026, a new federal excise tax applies to international transfers funded by cash, money orders, or cashier's checks. Because sending with Remitly is 100% digital (bank account, debit card, credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay), your transfers are exempt. Swipe for the full breakdown, and don't forget to tag someone who still sends with cash 💵 This post is for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal or tax advice.
