We’re thrilled to announce the first ever winner of the Tayur Poetry Prize, Hussain Ahmed (@hussainahmedng)! Ahmed’s collection, “Sing, Sky,” was selected by UChicago professor and Paris Review poetry editor Srikanth “Chicu” Reddy; it will be published by us in Spring 2027. “From a present-day Nigeria riven by sectarian violence to the Kafkaesque immigration offices of our United States, [Ahmed] maps a difficult passage through exile, migration, dream, song, and desire,” Reddy said of Ahmed’s book. “In its tenderness, outrage, hilarity, and wonder, this book reminds us that the poet’s work is forever migrant.” Read more about Ahmed (and the music that inspired his book) at the link in our bio 🔗
