For five weeks this spring, hundreds of girls will converge upon Forest Avenue in Des Moines. Decked out in matching jerseys and mouthguards and bright yellow belts – with two flags clipped to the sides – those athletes will take over Mediacom Stadium on Drake’s campus for a day filled with flag football. It’s the second season of the Des Moines Public Schools girls flag football league – kicking off on April 12 – and it’s already gearing up to be even bigger than last year.
