Why I train my core intensely at 50 and why it matters
Core training is not about flat abs.
It’s about how your body works as a unit.
Your core includes your deep abs, obliques, lower back, diaphragm and pelvic floor. These muscles work together to stabilize your spine, protect your joints, and transfer strength between your upper and lower body.
At 50, this becomes even more important because:
• Muscle mass naturally declines with age
• Joint stability becomes a priority
• Back, hip and knee issues are more common
• Balance and coordination can reduce if not trained
Functional core workouts train the body to brace, rotate, resist movement, and control force, the same way we move in daily life.
Benefits of consistent functional core training:
• Reduced lower-back pain
• Improved posture and spinal alignment
• Stronger glutes and safer leg training
• Better balance and fall prevention
• Improved breathing and core control
• Ability to lift, bend and move confidently
