POV: “There are no dark Asians.” Let me introduce you to my dad. 🤍 Happy late birthday in heaven, Dad. 🕊️ You were dark-skinned, proud, and beautiful — and so are millions of Asians around the world. There’s a common misconception that Asians are only light-skinned. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Southeast Asia — including Cambodia — has an incredibly wide range of skin tones, from light to deep brown. This isn’t new, and it isn’t accidental. Cambodians are indigenous to Southeast Asia, a region shaped by tropical climate, migration, trade routes, and centuries of history. Our skin tones reflect where we come from — the land, the sun, and generations before us. Dark skin has always existed in Asian communities, long before Western beauty standards tried to tell a different story. Colorism — not culture — is what erased that truth. So today, I honor my dad.
