Why the Cambodian–Thai conflict matters to me. This isn’t commentary. It’s memory. My parents are survivors of the Khmer Rouge genocide. They lost family. They lost everything. They became refugees. And I grew up in the aftermath of that trauma — the kind that doesn’t end when the war does. Cambodia is still healing. Many of us in the diaspora are still healing. Generational trauma doesn’t disappear — it shows up in our homes, our nervous systems, our lives. I’m still doing the work of breaking that cycle. So when I see reports of violence escalating again — reaching beyond borders and into inner cities — it’s impossible to stay silent. History teaches us what happens when early warning signs are ignored, especially for smaller nations still recovering from catastrophic loss. This is why I’m speaking now.
