Charles Johnson, founder of 4kira4moms, is a close family friend and a true Vineyard Icon I’ve known from childhood summers on MV. After losing his wife Kira following a routine C-section, Charles turned his pain into purpose, becoming a leading voice in the fight for Black maternal health. So when elainewelteroth and chelseacrowderluke invited me to the Martha’s Vineyard birthfund brunch, it was an immediate yes. BirthFUND, founded by the always-inspiring Elaine, brings midwifery care to families in need - a life-saving intervention, especially for Black mothers.
