PART 1 of 2 - Fellow therapists, does this resonate?!?
To me, therapy is like a TV show—new episodes every week, some episodes pick up right where the last one left off, sometimes a new character arc is explored, sometimes it’s a series of flashbacks from the past to the present. You don’t know what you are going to get! It’s captivating and chaotic at the same time, and yet we make sense of and relish every episode.
Invested and present therapy requires trust in the unknowing. The unfolding. The world building!
It takes a lot of skill to be a regulated ready-to-witness presence in the room.
How do you view therapy? What metaphors come up for you?
Come back for Part 2 where I explore our active role as “editors”!
