Since I got so many comments about my post yesterday I decided to expand my explanation of the languages I used during my PhD defense slash for my PhD thesis ๐Ÿค“ Spoiler! Itโ€™s mostly just Dutch and English ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ (I chose the American flag because Iโ€™m American and I have an American accent when I speak in English) ๐Ÿ˜‡ โ˜€๏ธ โ˜€๏ธ โ˜€๏ธ Iโ€™ve always had these two languages in my head ๐Ÿง  I grew up bilingual with an American mom and a Dutch dad ๐Ÿค“ But most of my scientific education was in English ๐Ÿ˜… I went to an American high school and also got my bachelorโ€™s degree in the US ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ which made me choose an English spoken Masters degree in the Netherlands ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ โ˜€๏ธ โ˜€๏ธ โ˜€๏ธ It wasnโ€™t until I started interning in labs in The Netherlands as a part of my masters degree that I came into contact with Dutch scientific language ๐Ÿ˜… and it was hard ๐Ÿ˜‚ I pretty much knew none of the words I needed ๐Ÿ™ˆ But I just kept trying and learning!
