People often ask me how to show up for someone who is grieving. The truth is there’s no perfect way. You will not get it all right. And that’s okay. That’s why I keep what I call my grace box. It’s where I put the missteps, the awkward silences, the well meaning words that land a little off. Well, sometimes very off… Because grief is messy and confusing and scary sometimes. What matters most isn’t saying the right thing. It’s showing up. Can you cook a meal? Drive someone somewhere? Organize a calendar or pick up the pieces they can’t carry that day?
