LMNT has a whopping 1,000 mg sodium per packet, which is nearly half the daily recommended limit of 2,300 mg. LMNT claims this limit is much too low and that we should really be targeting FOUR TO SIX thousand mg per day (what?!), to which they point to one study in support with many methodologic limitations, including inaccurate estimates of sodium intakes and reverse causation related to coexisting conditions.
But if we look at a more recent meta-analysis that addressed these issues, we see a significant linear relationship between sodium intake and cardiovascular risk.

Increasing sodium SHOULD NOT be a goal for most people. Nearly half of US adults have hypertension, a leading cause of death worldwide, for which high sodium consumption is a major contributor. So, pushing more sodium, and from a supplement, is completely NUTS.
