Say it clearly: Surrey is in a health emergency. Surrey Memorial Hospital was not built for the population it now serves. As one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, Surrey has outpaced its health infrastructure, and the consequences are showing every single day. Emergency rooms are full. Doctors and nurses are burned out. Wait times are growing. And maternity and pregnancy services are being reduced or closed when families need them most. This is not sustainable and it is not acceptable. When frontline workers are stretched beyond their limits, when patients cannot access timely care, and when expecting parents are redirected because capacity cannot keep up, that is a public health emergency. Mental health care, addiction treatment, emergency response, and hospital capacity are not optional services. They save lives.
