We always say that youth are our future, but in Surrey we are not giving that future the foundation it deserves. Every day, students walk into overflowing classrooms where forty kids share one teacher and one hour of learning. Programs that once inspired creativity and curiosity are being cut. Mental health supports are stretched thin and food programs meant to help our most vulnerable students are becoming increasingly scarce. Surrey is the largest school district in British Columbia, yet many now call it the Portable District because more than three hundred portables are being used as classrooms. Inside those portables sit future prime ministers, doctors, lawyers, innovators, artists, and leaders. They deserve more than temporary solutions. They deserve a system that truly believes in their potential.
