Why check a lipid panel earlier? ⬇️
The longer your LDL stays elevated, the higher your lifetime risk of developing cardiovascular disease (think strokes, heart attacks and PAD) …unfortunately, the clock starts ticking young and the ACC/AHA 2026 guidelines are finally addressing that.
The new guidelines recommend:
→ First cholesterol screening at ages 9–11y
→ Again around ages 19y
→ Then at least every 5 years after that using PREVENT
→ For young adults with LDL >160 or strong family history — medication lifestyle changes first —> consider statins.
This isn’t about scaring anyone.
