When people ask me “why cardiology” I wish I could play them the memories I have of patients who continue to teach me, challenge me and remind me why I’m here. Like in the Giver, where they give away their memories in real time. Recently, I had a day like this and it was the driving force behind creating this: This young, beautiful Black woman with no major risk factors came with dizziness and elevated troponin. We found a 99% blockage. We opened it up and placed a stent. Her prior history: gestational diabetes in her 20s, which later progressed to type 2 diabetes. This history MATTERS, y’all! . I may enjoy interventions, but I love prevention just as much. . Early recognition and action CAN make a difference in halting disease progression. . #CardioObstetrics #WomensHeartHealth #BlackMaternalHealth #PregnancyAndHeart #EquityInHealthcare
