One of the things I’ve done over the last few years is improve my relationship with food. One of the biggest shifts I made was actually learning what’s in the food I eat. I started doing this long before I even decided I wanted to lose weight, but it ended up being one of the main things that helped me lose it.
People significantly underestimate how much they’re eating. Sometimes you think you can just “eyeball it and eat less.” But it’s not just about eating less. It’s about knowing what’s in your food.
For example, when I log my food, I’m not only looking at the calories alone. I’m also checking how much sugar it has, how much sodium, and how much protein. Those are the things that allowed me to eat without restricting myself and still lose weight in the process.
If you’re trying to lose weight or just eat healthier in general, take this as your sign: you don’t have to live on salads. Knowing what’s in your food is just as important as what you’re eating.
