I think the ages 18-22 are some of the most pivotal years of your life. Where everything starts to form including how you are, your values, you likes and dislikes & you circle.
I moved out at 18 with a full scholarship ride to university and I always encourage others especially first gen girls to try it out. So here are the steps that make that move real, even if money or circumstances feel impossible!
1. Apply to every scholarship you can.
Local ones, school-specific ones, identity-based ones, random essay ones, all of it.
Start as early as possible!! I got my full ride my sophomore year of highschool so I was set at 16. The opportunities exist you just have to research & find them.
2. Build a real support system before you go.
Join group chats, admitted student pages, major-specific communities, mentorship programs, Greek life, don’t wait until you arrive to find your people.
3. Ask schools for more aid.
