In 4th grade, Mollison Elementary school 44th & king drive in Bronzeville south side of chicago. That day Proprietress of Brown Sugar Cafe' & Books was CREATED.. I was handed a book as PUNISHMENT.. to write penmanship lines for talking in class.. I was handed the book as a form of discipline BUT GOD had other plans... I read the book. Every day. I was IN the book. My mind traveled waaaayyyy to Georgia walking barefoot on red dirt roads, eating peaches straight from the tree .. sun blazing in my face ... everyday I escaped that harsh winter reality, the reality that I wanted to escape... the book SHAPED me.. it awaken EVERYTHING In me. It took me places I thought I'd never get to see.. I've been appreciative to Dr. Maya Angelou ever since. She saved me. Changed the entire trajectory of my life..
