I had a great time learning about Professor Kleinert’s biology service learning project with Noorthoek Academy. It was great to see how all the students were engaged and eager to complete the “Escape the Anatomy Lab” puzzle. Each student greeted me like I was one of their own, and I knew straight away that I was in a positive and friendly environment. GRCC has been offering service learning to students since the 90’s and it’s a great way to align your course learning outcomes while supporting our local community organizations. Students in return, gain real-world experience while deepening their learning. @noorthoekacademy is a non-profit organization that provides an affordable college experience, offering continuing education in the arts and sciences for adults with learning challenges and other intellectual disabilities in partnership with Grand Rapids Community College.
