As first gen immigrants, my parents moved our family to Australia when I was 13 for my future. Like most Asian parents, they placed strong emphasis on academic achievements, building a career, and the importance of family. Moving away from them to pursue my career has always been a source of heartache for them (and me) despite their unwavering support. Teaching me to be independent also means that I don’t want to rely on them when things get hard, but I’m learning that it’s ok, cause we’re family after all. The resilience I’ve learned over the years helped me build a successful orthodontic practice in Sydney, Australia. This is where I get to help patients like me to feel confident in their smile.
