Checking your little ones poos to see what they look like is a great way to detect constipation early. Also teaching your child what is normal and what isn’t is equally important. Chatting about poo might seem embarrassing to some but it is vital that we do. Make it fun, it’s not the nicest looking or smelling but hey everyone does it!!
The Bristol Stool chart is a chart of 7 different types of poo.
Type 1, 2 & 3 are dry constipated poos
Type 4 is ideal
Type 5 is a bit more sloppy and common if a child is on a laxative or maybe diet related
Type 6 is very loose (diet related or bug)
Type 7 is watery and may be due to a bug or it could be overflow diarrhoea
Always get your little one checked out by a doctor if you are concerned.
