I moved to LA in 2014 to pursue my MFA in directing at USC. Living abroad chasing your dreams? That part is great. But homesickness? Yeah, that hits hard.
Food has always been the thing that brings me back to home, to culture, to community, even to myself. But as a broke student? I couldn’t always buy the flavors I missed. So I tried making them myself.
One of the first things I tried? Doubles.
I love doubles.
In 2017, I made my first batch and called up some friends to try it. Safe to say...it wasn’t perfect. But they showed love. Looking back at the pic now? Yeah...let’s just say we’ve come a long way.
But I kept at it. Kept practicing. Kept sharing. Because I knew one day this would be bigger than just food. It would be about building community and bringing people together.
I’m still a Director.
I still love telling stories and connecting with people.
