'The Letters in the Snow'
This can be a harsh place. This is my road, my winter, my long drive home through darkness, ice, and curves that never seem to stay the same. Live in one place long enough, and the landscape begins to shift under memory. Snowbanks redraw the edges, darkness changes the distance, and the lights along the road seem to move from one season to the next. What was familiar becomes treacherous. The way home has to be learned again and again.
In winter, warmth becomes more than comfort. It becomes proof. A lit window, a porch light, the amber glow of a room where the people you love are safe inside. My partner and my two daughters are warm-weather creatures, not built in spirit for long cold seasons, so every dangerous drive pulls me toward that glow. That is where SDM begins to mean more than a mark or a name. Repeated on vans, buildings, and windows, it becomes a signal in the snow, a reminder that I have passed this way before, that light is near, that home still...
