OpenAI’s robotics chief has stepped down. Caitlin Kalinowski, who led robotics and hardware efforts at OpenAI, has announced her resignation from the company. In a public statement, she explained that the decision was not about the team or leadership, but rather about principles surrounding the responsible use of advanced AI. Kalinowski said she believes AI can play an important role in national security, but raised concerns about two areas she believes require stronger safeguards: • Surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight • Lethal autonomous systems operating without human authorization According to her, these issues deserved more public deliberation and governance before moving forward.
