29 years ago today, I experienced my very first
@spelman_college @morehouse1867 Homecoming — wide-eyed, full of dreams, and completely unaware that I was stepping into a legacy that would shape my entire life.
Before parking decks, before truck pull-ups and VIP tents… there was just us — a sea of young Black brilliance and possibility. On the heels of the last official Freaknik of ’97, I was a Spelman Freshwoman in October ’96, clutching a solo cup, tugging at my oversized jeans, and laughing with my sisters as music filled the air and the yard pulsed with joy.
Back then, I didn’t know how sacred that yard was — but I know now. It was more than a place. It was where we became. It was where I found the meaning of home — the kind that lives in your bones and never leaves you.
I’m not there this year, but I’m catching the vibes today and always. That yard will forever be home — the homeland of sisterhood, love, and leg...
