Today is National Grief Awareness Day, and I wanted to share something deeply personal with you. 194 days ago, I lost my dad after his decades-long battle with addiction, and it completely broke me. But here’s what I’ve learned about grief that isn’t talked about enough. Grief is an opportunity to learn, grow, and heal into a different version of yourself. Everyone’s grief journey will look different. For me, therapy was the turning point. Those conversations with my therapist didn’t just help me cope with losing my dad - they helped me realize I was using work as a distraction and that I was afraid to share my feelings because I didn’t want to burden my friends and family. Now, instead of work being an escape, I’m building something my dad would be proud of. And I’ve learned that sharing our feelings actually encourages others to do the same, which helps everyone heal.
