Early detection tips: Perform monthly self breast examinations, take pictures and make sure there are no changes in appearance or symmetry. Start screening mammograms at age 40. Or if you are considered high risk get a breast mammogram every year, starting at age 30. High risk is:         A family history of breast cancer         A BRCA1 (bswhealth.com/specialties/genetics/brca-gene) or BRCA2 gene mutation discovered through genetic testing If you have questions about BRCA1 or BRCA2 testing, consult with your primary care or your OB/GYN.
