I’m not going to lie, I’ve never met a castle I didn’t vibe with, but when you tell me that an ancestor of Anne Boleyn’s haunts one…I’m going to love it a wee bit more. Welcome to Kilkenny Castle, in Kilkenny, Ireland. This place has seen a lot, and I do mean a lot, but bloodshed and remodels aren’t unique to castles. What IS unique to this castle is that it was a private family home for over 500 years to a non-royal, but very aristocratic royalist family… not ideal during MANY parts of Ireland’s history. It’s impossible to sum nearly 1,000 years of history, so instead, I’ve decided to share a few of my favorite things from within (and outside) the castle walls.
