When a coffee shop hunt turns into a historical research project…
📍Welcome to the Cooper Arms in Long Beach.
Built in 1923, this building is one of the first “condo” buildings in the city and was also one of the first to be designated a historic landmark. With deep architectural ties to Los Angeles, such as the architects Curlett & Beelman known for LA landmarks like the Culver Hotel and Eastern Columbia Building, but also utilizing the same engineering & construction company as the Biltmore in DTLA. The real star of the show is the man behind the “own your own apartment” plan, Lionel Vincent Mayell who would be most famous for the stunning Villia Riviera down the street.
I came to try
@roseparkroasters and left with a very enjoyable research project. Oh..and according to some former residents and a couple of online forums, the building IS in fact haunted. 👻But of course, that’s just a legend. That being said, I am sure these walls have some stories to tell….
