I asked y’all what #tbt you would want to see and Tarpon won by far! As you read this…keep in mind this was only the second time I had caught a tarpon…my first from the beach and before I learned to fly fish. I woke up at the crack of dawn to get to the beach for sunrise. When I got there & saw the seaweed, I felt doomed. I decided to throw my cast net anyway. I ended up with a net full of weeds, but also managed a bucket full of pilchards. I put a pilchard on my line along with a weight to get under the seaweed. I expected a snook, but first cast, I got a huge surprise! My first tarpon from the beach & I was solo with no one in close distance! It jumped like crazy & all I could think was “god please let my knots hold.” I wish I could relive all of it, but it’s mostly a blur because I was in such shock 😅 Lucky for me a jogger passed by once I finally got the tarpon in my hands and was able to snap this shot for me.
