This past weekend we took Kaïri & Aya to the @1000mokos @littlejabstt Moko Jumbie workshop and the experience reminded me of the impact these mystical, magical, powerful spirits have had on me since I was a child - all the way through to my creative and political expression through the @wideawakes movement in the US in 2020. Being from #Trinidad and from the Caribbean has crafted me in ways I can’t even begin to explain, but if there’s one thing I feel particularly grateful for is the understanding of what freedom means to the human experience, and how those who have fought for our freedom to be our truest; most authentic selves, needs always to be celebrated and honoured. Even though our @1000mokos experience wasn’t exactly planned for this reason, I’m reminded that we are privileged to share with our children the wisdom and struggle that #Emancipation has afforded us as Caribbean people, and I remain in immense gratitude to those who provide access to this knowledge, so that we ma...
