“When I dare to be powerful—to use my strength in the service of my vision — then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid," Audre Lorde
.
It is hard for me to admit when I am afraid; in fact I like to think I am fearless in my work and in making my life decisions, but too often our conscious and unconscious choices and habits as women in Trinidad are tailored to safeguard ourselves from the aggressions, both micro and overt, that we face on a daily basis in this country.

It saddens me that the
#LeaveSheAlone campaign is as relevant now as when we launched in 4 years ago, but I am also grateful for the sisterhood of powerful women in carnival that came together in the last week to stand in the face of the societal ills that continue to keep us living in fear. Together we are a force that cannot be ignored. As Audre Lorde herself says, “Women are powerful, and dangerous.” Together we most certainly have nothing to fear womenincarnival
