The mental load will never be fully lifted, and having this extra thing to carry will always make life harder than if I didn’t have T1D. But life is significantly easier now than it once was and that makes me so happppyyy. Because for a while there it was rough. One of our favorite things to do in the summer is meet at the beach after work with the baby, bring dinner, and just decompress. It’s not usually planned… usually a last-minute, spontaneous “let’s meet after work.” For a long time, nights like this felt complicated. If I ate pizza, my blood sugars would spike and I’d be chasing numbers all night, drained the next day. If I didn’t, I’d bring a salad and sit there wishing I could fully enjoy the moment.
