About 4 months ago I watched a video on YouTube about the Monstera Deliciosa fruit. Apparently it tasted amazing - a mix between a pineapple and a mango. Pretty rare to find them and very hard to grow commercially has kept them off supermarket shelves and restaurants.
So of course I had to have one and within a week I’d found one in a park in Melbourne. A large and mature plant with this fruit pod in the first photo.
I read that it’s poisonous to eat when unripened. So I had to leave it in the sun for a couple weeks before it began to open and ripen. The smell was amazing and a dead give away. Pretty confident that I wasn’t going to poison myself, I had a bite. Amazing! 🤩 they we’re right! A mix of pineapple, mango and even banana.
As I was eating it I noticed what felt like an unpopped corn kernel. Spat it out and it was actually a seed (second photo). So I planted the seed and it’s gone from strength to strength including it’s 3rd leaf over the last week!
