My sister-in-law. My immediate senior brother. My mother-in-law. One loss in each of the first three quarters of the year, as though grief itself was keeping a timetable. So when people speak enthusiastically about New Year resolutions, I listen—but from a distance. I honestly cannot remember the last time I consciously made one.
