How to Work with Thoughts
In Mindfulness Based Coaching?
When a difficult thought shows up, we do not fight it. We work with it gently.
1. Notice
Pause and ask:
What is happening in my body?
What emotions are present?
What thoughts are moving through my mind?
2. Name
Give the experience simple language:
What is this feeling?
What is this thought?
Naming creates space.
Space creates choice.
3. Nurture
Instead of correcting the thought, ask:
What do I need right now?
What would feel supportive?
This approach keeps the focus on awareness and self compassion, not on forcing positive thinking.
Example:
“I notice tightness in my chest.”
“I name this as anxiety.”
“I nurture by slowing my breathing.”
Mindfulness based coaching is not about changing thoughts immediately.
It is about building a relationship with our inner experience that is kind, steady, and wise.
