The conversation of friendships in one I hear often in therapy with the moms I see. There’s a grieve and discomfort that comes from being a new mom and maintaining your friendships. Sometimes it’s the distance that mothering creates for you, the unspoken expectations that friends have or you have, and the ever growing changes happening to you and them as individuals.
I want to you thrive in friendships as you’re surviving motherhood. Community plays a key role in how we mother. We weren’t meant to do this journey alone. Yes, your friendships will change. Some seasons will feel closer emotionally but physically so far, or distant emotionally and physically. Just like any relationship, no one will ever give 100 of themselves, especially when you have little kids. But communication and effort go a long way. Some friends will get you’re surviving, some will grieve who you were, and sometimes distance may end a friendship.
