I am in the business of making sure my boys never let the weight of society’s idea of manhood crush them, but in fact that the softness of their childhood would make them brave, courageous, loving, and righteous men.
It wasn’t until I became a boy mom that I saw my husband with a lot more gentle eyes. I grew up believing that men would either disappoint me or I needed to have high expectations. The problem is that both of those come with wounded minded expectations. My husband is probably one of the most wonderful, gentle and strongest men I’ve ever known. When he shares stories of his childhood, they give me insight to a manhood that’s been distorted by society and not by the standard that God calls for them to experience and live.
I know nothing about manhood, but I sure hope I’m building a foundation strong and loving for my boys to remember.
