Southern Africa protects wildlife differently than the American model and it has had a lot of success. In places like Eswatini, many parks are run by trusts that fund conservation through tourism and jobs, but it is critical that these parks create value for those around it or there will be significant pressure to use the land for other purposes. Some go further like Namibia where they have community ownership of the resource. The American model on the contrary is about setting aside the land and paying to protect it without any profit incentive.
