It appears that @lagosstategovt is not keeping their word on Makoko According to the New York Times, at least 10,000 people have lost their homes already due to ongoing demolition efforts beginning in December in Makoko Originally the community was told they built too close to the power line and some homes were demolished to create a 30 meter buffer space. That buffer was extended to 100 meters with agreement from community leaders, but now the excavators have torn down homes as far as 500 meters from these powerlines. Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has defended the demolitions saying it is for the safety of the community, but it appears that the destruction has gone way beyond the power lines and is threatening the very further existence of the community itself.
