Last year on this day, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer - and I had absolutely no symptoms and no thyroid function issues. By the time it was discovered (by my primary doctor during an annual visit), it had already spread to the lymph nodes on the left side of my neck. What surprised me most is that thyroid cancer is often asymptomatic, and unlike breast cancer where women are routinely screened with mammograms and ultrasounds, there is still no standard screening protocol for thyroid cancer. More women — and younger women — are being diagnosed every year now. Please be your own advocate. Ask your doctor to check your thyroid and consider requesting an ultrasound. Early detection matters. Sharing this because awareness can save lives. 3 of my friends were diagnosed with thyroid cancer after me as a result of my experience - they were also asymptomatic. Please spread the word (save or share this so more women can be proactive about getting their thyroids checked!) #thyroidcancer
