The Gullah Geechee people: are descendants of slaves who were brought to the lower-Atlantic states from Western and Central Africa in the 18th century. Because of the island’s unique isolation during those times they are some of the only people who still hold their ORIGINAL traditions, religious practices, and language to this day.
