As I’ve sat in ceremony over the last year processing trauma, the consistent theme that has continued to come up is the legacy of the silenced women in my ancestral line. Many women have shown up in these therapeutic containers both in breathwork and in ceremony. They stand on the outskirts as I built a ring of fire around me. They stood behind me with a single pillar candle in each of their hands, fanning out, thousands of women, I stood at the helm, holding my mother’s hand while passing the torch to my daughter. Growing up Mormon, I lived in fear for years around the teachings that god was watching me, the dead were watching me - at every moment, I feared judgement. In these ceremonies, no one is watching any more. I let go of performative constructs - I lead myself, breaking silence on my story - releasing myself and the past generations from suffering.
