Fallen Angels was originally conceived as part of Chungking Express, but Wong Kar-wai split the project when the material became darker and more abstract, allowing it to stand on its own as a more nocturnal, melancholic companion piece. Shot almost entirely at night, the film uses extreme wide-angle lenses and Christopher Doyle’s jittery, step-printed cinematography to distort space, exaggerate motion, and reflect the characters’ emotional dislocation within Hong Kong’s neon-lit streets. 🎥 ‘Fallen Angels’ (1995) Dir.
