Six years ago yesterday, I stood on a stage and delivered my very first paid speaking engagement. The title of my talk was “The Present Is a Gift.” What made it even more meaningful was this simple sentence from the organizer: “I want you to speak at my event — and I’m going to pay you.” At the time, I had only been in business seven months. I was showing up, attending events, learning, pouring, trusting… and that moment reminded me that someone saw my worth before I fully saw it myself.
