❤️‍🩹 This is something I’ve learned and observed in both my work and my life. As a consultation-liaison psychiatrist, I practice as a holistic physician, caring for people where the mind and body are deeply intertwined. I’ve taken care of patients through acute crises and chronic illness, and I’ve noticed a consistent pattern. Those who don’t fully resign to their condition—who don’t let illness become their identity—tend to stay engaged despite setbacks and challenges. They focus on what they can control. They adapt. Not because the illness isn’t real or serious, but because belief shapes behavior, and behavior shapes outcomes. This isn’t denial or forced optimism. It’s hope as a form of engagement.
