Why We Ski in Utah as a SoCal Family ⛷🏔 If you scroll our feed, it might look like we’re always traveling—but that’s not the full story. Yes, we recognize the privilege of being able to do this. But for us, that privilege comes with real tradeoffs. As a couple in medicine (an ED/hospital-based psychiatrist and general surgeon), our schedules don’t fall into a neat 9–5. We often show up and are on call for our patients and teams mornings, nights, weekends, holidays and even on our birthdays and anniversaries. When we do get time off, we’re balancing kids’ activities and family life. Because of this constant juggle, we’ve become efficient at maximizing the little time we have. This winter, we’ve squeezed in two long-weekend ski trips and have one more coming up. Driving to California resorts means 3–6 hours in the car after work on Fridays, then another exhausting drive home before jumping straight back into a demanding week.
