I graduated from medical school 20 years ago, and I’m still loving my work as much as I did at the beginning. I’m deeply grateful to have found purpose in medicine. ❤️
To be honest, I started out a bit lost during those first non-clinical years of med school—organic chemistry, embryology, rote memorization 🤪 didn’t exactly vibe with the creative in me. After studying, I’d go out with my fashion friends and host dinner parties. But once clinical rotations began, things started to click. I love stories, connecting with people, and problem-solving—and during my psychiatry rotations, I found my calling.
Some days are tough and emotionally draining. But being there during someone’s time of crisis (I’m an emergency and consult psychiatrist)—to help restore hope, or when a cure isn’t possible, to provide comfort and peace—is a privilege I never take for granted.
