Should you bring kids to chase the Aurora? My honest answer: it depends. The Northern Lights are magical… but they’re also late at night, unpredictable, and generally can be best seen in very cold settings 🥶— which can be tough for little ones or kids who need a consistent routine. Our boys did great overall, but there were definitely tired moments and long stretches of waiting ( + Aurora viewing is never guaranteed! See my Ultimate Aurora Guide for tips on how to increase your chances) With the right mindset (and lots of warm layers), older kids and teens can absolutely do it — and when the lights finally appear, it is magic ✨ To make our Alaska family trip fun for everyone, we mixed in kid-friendly activities like a walk with reindeers, visiting the North Pole and Aurora Ice Museum, lots of hot cocoa, and cozy cabin rest.
